Joomla! Weekly News, 15-2008

Let’s list a few news about Joomla! that went into my Google Reader this week.

First of all, a little disappointment caused by the delay of the 1.1 stable release of VirtueMart, a version that will work with Joomla! 1.5. It will be released after the 22nd of April, due to a number of bugs that have to be resolved.

JoomlaShack launched a Joomla! Template Builder, a web application that lets you choose colors, options and style and then created the template files. A must-try!

The Joomla! extensions team asked the 3ty part developers to specify if their extension is 1.0 or 1.5 compatible. This way it will be easier for the user to find version-specific extensions!

CompassDesign published an article that introduces a few features of the upcoming Joomla! 1.6, that should be released around August 2008.

Regarding Joomla! 1.6, some weeks ago the Joomla! development team has requested whitepaper proposals to improve the Joomla! SEO. Alledia.com contacted a number of Joomla developers and published their ideas.

Also on the Alledia website we can find a nice article that explains how to use internal URLS for external links.

Let’s have a look at some of the new extensions released this week:

• Joom!Fish 2.0 beta: moving towards J! 1.5 compatibility and more.
• QTube 1.0: a J! 1.5 plugin to manage the YouTube video
• Skype Manager, to manage the Skype contacts into the Joomla! site.
• JoomiHide, shows the full articles only to registered users.
• VisitorMap, shows a world map telling where are your visitors from.
• YouTube We Download, shows a button next to the YouTube video that allows to download the video showed.
• Joomla Updater an automatic Joomla! updater.
• Joomla Drag&Drop: commercial, leads to frontend drag&drop of modules, so that it is the user that manages the layout of the content.
• Article Factory Manager 1.2, useful to manage an article-oriented Joomla! website.
• Billets, used to implement ticket-based client support.
• S4J Remote Admin, commercial, enables you to manage your Joomla! website using a desktop application.
