How to increase your blog recurring visitors allowing them to subscribe to the comments of an article, using Wordpress.
Have you ever noticed, adding a comment to a blog post, a little checkbox with some text near it saying “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail”? Well, we’re going to use this feature in our blog. When a visitor comments our blog post, we give him the choice to subscribe to it, so that when a new comment is published about that article, an email will be sent to our visitor’s e-address.
We’ll also add to our system a subscription manager that will enable the visitor to cancel his subscriptions whenever he wants.
This feature is provided by a Wordpress plugin named Subscribe to Comments http://txfx.net/code/wordpress/subscribe-to-comments/.
Using this plugin is a simple and immediate way to make sure that a visitor won’t forget our address, and gives a boost to the conversation ongoing in the comments of the post.
This way we could transform a casual visitor into a recurring one.
How do you install the plugin? Download it from the official website http://txfx.net/code/wordpress/subscribe-to-comments/ and extract it into a folder.
Then upload it to your Wordpress installation on the web server, in the folder wp-content/plugins.
Now we open our web browser and we go to the administrator section of our blog, to activate the plugin and set some preferences.
Activate the plugin in the panel Plugins, then go to the panel Options, and click the tab Subscribe to Comments.
In the new panel, insert your name and email.
If the first checkbox is active, then the checkbox “Notify me of followup comments via e-mail” in the website will be checked by default.
The second checkbox has to be unchecked if the checkbox in the website doesn’t look as expected (it does some CSS).
Ok, now click Update Options and you’re ready to go!
