It’s official, Wordpress 2.3 has been released, the latest release of the popular blog engine, that introduces a number of useful novelties. Let’s talk about them.
What’s new in this version? First of all, Wordpress 2.3 integrates the tag management, so those of you using Ultimate Tag Warrior to introduce tags in Wordpress won’t need that plugin no more.
During the upgrade you can import the UTW tags, so that they won’t be lost.
One more thing (Jobs’ style
), it has been modified the database, in order to integrate the tags. You can see what happened here http://boren.nu/archives/2007/09/05/wordpress-23-database-schema-changes/
This release also introduces a number of bug fixes.
The problem with the upgrade is that as the new release has a great impact on the database, some category - tags related plugins won’t work with the new version, and you have to wait for a newer version of those.
You can find the list of plugin compatibility at http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Plugin_Compatibility/2.3
So, before upgrading it’s necessary to deactivate all the installed plugins, then reactivate them one by one, to determine which plugins won’t work with the new 2.3 version.
In conclusion, it’s not advisabile to upgrade your blog in a hurry, but wait for others to do it and report the bugs and make sure all the plugins you use are upgraded to work with the new Wordpress 2.3.
